Phone Booths Best Practice

For all phone booths, area sensors should be the preferred sensor solution if there is adequate line of sight and environmental conditions. A specific sensors for phone booths is on the road map but in the meantime an area sensor should be placed outside of the phone booth.

Some things to consider:

  • What type of door does the phone booth have?
    • If the phone booth has a glass door this may be suitable for an area sensor. However, if it is an opaque door, this will not be feasible.
  • What is the space around the booth like?
    • If the space is a highly used thoroughfare this may compromise the ability for the sensor to detect occupancy in the phone booth.
  • Is the ceiling hight suitable for the sensor?
    • If installing an area sensor for outside the phone booth, the height of the ceiling needs to comply with the typical area sensor height requirements.

Plotting Phone Booths in the PSL

A phone sensor can be placed in front of the phone booth between two booths to capture them both.

Space mapping for phone booths need to be mapped a little in front and behind the phone booth as demonstrated by the green space above.
