Create a PSL

This document outlines the internal process for creating a new PSL.

Purpose of the PSL Tool

The purpose of the PSL tool is to provide an estimate of sensor numbers and locations to customers with the intention of providing the customer with a quote. The details of sensor placements from the tool assist with pricing and installation, but do not always indicate final placement of sensors.

To complete a PSL the following needs to be received:

  • Floor plan in PDF Format (CAD file is next best)
  • Accurate scale marked on the plans (if a scale is unable to be received, we will assume a doorway is 90cms)
  • Reflected Ceiling Plans (RCP's) - this will assist with installation later down the track
  • In scope locations clearly identified - this allows us to know which areas the customer would like covered. If not provided, we assume all workstations and meeting rooms are in scope, excluding corridors.

NB: This is for best practice, accommodations may need to be made depending on the customer requirements

Process:

Plans are to be provided by the customer

  • Plans are usually provided in PDF format.
  • This then needs to be converted to a PNG/JPEG version (Preview on Mac can be used for this)
  • Increase the pixel size to 200

Login to XY Sense Portal

Check if the customer already exists in the portal

If not click on the button “New customer” on the Customers tab to add a customer

  1. Enter the Company Name
  2. Upload a Company Logo

Click “New PSL” to create a new proposed sensor layout for the customer or click on 'Proposed Sensor Layouts' to view PSL's previously created

This is the main screen where you will create the PSL.

Insert PSL Name

First, you will need to upload floor plans for the prospective customer and scale them accordingly. You can either drag-and-drop a floor plan, or select the box ‘Click here to select a floor plan’.

You can upload multiple floor plans at once

Assign a location

Give the floor a name and set an installation location

Set the scale

Ensure the plan has a scale bar printed alternatively a physical measurement can be used.

As a worst case we can use a door frame and set 90cm or 35.4 inches- the customer will need to provide a more accurate measurement closer to 10m

Use the scale tool in the app, to set the correct scale on the plan

    1. Click the button labelled “Set Scale”. Choose whether the scale should be set in cm or inches by using the dropdown
    2. Measure a distance labelled on the floor plan
    3. Type the line measurement from the floor plan into the set scale text box. This is to be inputted in cms
    4. Measure a doorway on the floor plan - if the scale is set correctly this should be approx 90cm or 36"
    5.

There are two types of sensors that can be inputted onto the floor plan.

Area Sensors

Area Sensors are used in open spaces, meeting rooms and collaboration areas.

First click on the Sensor icon shaped icon

Select Area Sensor mode

This will then allow you to click on the submenu with sensor types and access the drop-down menu called ‘Select a coverage type’ to add new sensors. Type in the sensor type you are looking for. Once you have selected a sensor type, you can double click anywhere on the floor plan to add a sensor location.

Entry Sensors

Entry Sensors are used at a doorway to count people entering and leaving a space

First click on the Sensor icon shaped icon to access the submenu

To input an Entry Sensor on the floorplan, click on the  Entry Sensor icon

This will then provide drop down options once clicking on 'Select a coverage type'

When placed on the floor plan, each square represents a sensor. You should assign different colours to the squares to represent different areas in the workplace. This will help provide quotes according to different spaces, as the customer may want a quote for full coverage, as well as an additional quote for only offices and meeting rooms (no hallways, no kitchen area, etc.).

Make sure you position sensors across the space that is in scope so all necessary work points are covered.

Once all the sensors are laid out on the floor plan, the left hand side will provide an idea of the number of sensors required and break this down by Sensor type.

To locate a specific sensor type, click on the magnifying glass and this will show you all of the sensor types locations.

Downloading PSL

At this stage there is no way to export the floor plan with the sensor locations and legend. A screenshot of the floor plan and legend will need to be taken and converted to pdf to share with customers

Adding a New Sensor Type

If you look through the existing sensor types and are unable to find an adequate type, then you can add a new sensor in the app. This is located here in the app, tutorial found in the video below:
