What are Space Types and Groups? 📺

Space Types and Groups are different ways that spaces are classified within the XY Sense platform.

Space Types

Space types are the minimum classification of a space, and are required in some capacity for any mapped floor. Our analytics dashboards separate single occupancy spaces (workpoint) and collaboration spaces (project space, breakout space and meeting room). Space types are a helpful way to filter your data, as they allow you to compare like to like when it comes to space utilization.

Within the XY Sense platform we can configure space types, space names, space capacities, and the dates when these are activated from. Our default space type names are workpoint, project space, breakout space and meeting room. If you require unique space names please let us know.

Here is an example of a floorplan with different space types mapped to it:

Workpoints

We categorize a workstation or desk as a workpoint. These are single occupant spaces which are usually labeled with a number, however, we can individually name these if you want to identify a workpoint in the analytics e.g. W1.1.

Collaboration Spaces

Collaboration Spaces are any spaces that have occupancy greater than one. Our standard collaboration space types are Project Space, Breakout Space and Meeting Room. For collaboration spaces, a space name and capacity is required.

Neighbourhoods/ Groups

Groups are not required for all mapped floors, but are a good way to further distinguish spaces into different categories within the analytics. Customers often use groups to distinguish different departments or neighborhoods on a floor. There is no limit to how many groups you can make.

Some organizations don't use a 1:1 ratio of staff to desks in their neighborhoods. Custom ratios can be configured in each individual group to account for this.

Any space type can be assigned to any group. Below is an example of the same floorplan but with groups assigned:
