Can I use PoE infrastructure?

The XY Sense sensors can be used with a PoE injector for smaller installations, this is common for a small proof of concept scenario. For a PoE installation you will need to connect your network into the PoE injector or alternatively a Cellular (4G) router can be used for data connection. A wired data connection is required for XY Cloud Connectivity.

Existing PoE infrastructure

  • PoE, PoE+, PoE++ ports can be used.
  • Sometimes these are called 802.3af, 802.3at, 802.3bt respectively.
  • Only one sensor is able to be used per port.
  • This device is needed to sit between the port and the XY Sensor - Ubiquiti INS-3AF-I-G
  • NOTE: Using this method does not allow us to leverage SenseLink chain.

Using a PoE Injector (No existing PoE infrastructure)

One of the following devices can be used (all of them also require mains power as well, as a wired network connection)

  • Ubiquiti PoE-24-12W - only supports one sensor
  • Ubiquiti POE-48-24W - supports up to 2 sensors in a daisy chain

Network Connection

Two options are available to connect the sensors to the XY Cloud

  1. Wired Network
The PoE injector connects via ethernet cable directly into the customer network. In this case the Network requirements below need to be enabled.
  2. 4G Router
The PoE injector connects via ethernet cable directly into a 4G router and all communications are sent via 4G to the XY cloud.

Network Requirements

The network the PoE injector will be running on will need to allow certain access to ports and endpoints as outlined below:
